Cortada Projects invites you to Futurescape Miami: Skyline to Shoreline, a public presentation by the Facebook Art Department and Facebook Analog Research Lab, as part of UNTITLED, ART Fair’s Monuments Program during Art Basel Miami 2019 from Wednesday, Dec. 4 to Sunday, Dec. 8.
The artists whose work is featured in the Facebook Art Department’s exhibition Futurescape Miami: Skyline to Shoreline invite visitors to consider the idea of ‘futurescape’ as one that encompasses an increasing consideration of the impact of sea level rise and shifting shorelines on urban environments. Finnish artists Pekka Niittyvirta and Timo Aho have installed lines of light on and around FB Art Dept’s South Beach activation space as a visual warning of the long-term effects of climate change on the landscape. San Francisco-based artists Hughen/Starkweather have created research-based abstract artworks that reference past and future climate-related events, and the respective practices of Miami-based artists Thom Wheeler Castillo, Xavier Cortada, and Misael Soto address the global climate crisis through participatory activations, installations, and performances. Other projects featured are by Louisiana-based artist and scientist Brandon Ballengée, past Facebook artist in residence Jay Nelson, and Facebook designers in residence Cody Blocker and Sean Suchara.
**Public programming will run December 4–8 and is free and open to all on a first-come basis.**
